İlk oyunun ardından yapımcı ve yayımcı şirketler arasındaki anlaşmazlıklar nedeniyle ayrılık kararı çıktı. Böylece F.E.A.R.�ın düşüşü de başlamış oldu. Oyunun isim hakları Sierra�da kalınca, birbiri ardına gelen ek paketler ve F.E.A.R.�ın X360 versiyonu haricindeki diğer konsol uyarlamaları, başarısız oldu. Tüm bunların arasından bir ses yükseldi ve Monolith, yeni oyunun hazırlanacağını duyurdu. İsim hakları elinde olmadığı için, yeni bir isim bulmak gerekliydi ve bu konuda oyuncuların seçimlerinden yararlanılarak �Project Origin� isminde karar kılındı. Oyunun geliştirme süreci devam ederken bir haber daha geldi ve F.E.A.R. isminin haklarının alındığı da duyurulunca yeni projenin ismi, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin olarak son halini aldı.
